Feeling blaHsé…

I’m starting to feel a little better. I’ve had a chest cold for about a week now. We had to miss our hiking and camping trip off the AT because I was too sick. The kids have caught the sickness too, and D was out of school for 2 days. He’s back today. I told him to call if he is feeling too ill. Soma is home now, for the second day. I’m hoping he’ll be able to get back to school tomorrow. I feel I’m right at the tail end of it, so I’ll be able to get back into my routines soon.

I’m just glad the weekend is almost here, so J can help me out with the kids. It’s been very tiring this week.

All natural tips

I had to place this here, I worried that my paper version would get lost or torn or something else. I thought these were good enough to keep around. :)

  • sealed envelope – put in the freezer for a few hours, then slide a knife under the flap. The envelope can then be resealed.
  • crayon marks on walls – damp rag dipped in baking soda.
  • permanent marker on appliances/counter tops (like receipt blue) – rubbing alcohol on paper towel
  • blood stains on clothes – pour a little peroxide on a cloth
  • use vertical strokes when washing windows outside and horizontal for inside windows.  This way you can tell which side has the streaks.  Straight vinegar will get outside windows really clean.  Don’t wash windows on a sunny day.  Will dry too quickly.
  • place fabric softner sheets in dresser drawers and your clothes will smell freshly washed for weeks to come.  You can also do this with towels and linens.
  • candles will last a lot longer if placed in the freezer for 3 hours prior to burning.
  • to prevent egg shells from cracking, add a pinch of salt to the water before hard boiling.
  • when a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking pan, use bits of the dry cake mix instead and there won’t be any white mess on the outside of the cake.
  • wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in refrigerator and it will keep for weeks.
  • cure for headaches:  take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead.
  • to get rid of itch from mosquito bites, try applying soap on the area.
  • ants don’t cross a chalk line – borax acid powder
  • drop 2 alka seltzers in toilet – wait 20 mins. brush and flush.  The citric acid and effervescent action cleans vitreous China.
  • clean a vase – to remove a stain from the bottom of a glass vase – fill with water and drop in 2 alka seltzers.
  • polish jewelry – drop 2 alka seltzers into a glass of water and immerse the jewelry for 2 mins.
  • unclog a drain – clear the sink drain by dropping 3 alka seltzers down the drain followed by a cup of Heinz white vinegar.  Wait a few mins. then run hot water.
  • Beachin’ it!

Heading to the beach very shortly! Excited! The past few days we’ve had some very ferocious lightning and thunder storms. It’s all sunny right now, but I’m sure we’ll have a storm later. I’ll have to post some pics from the thunder clouds later. I’m doing quickpress right now. A quick jot.
